Arranged a 121 lesson with Ricky to work on my carve gybes. Turned up at 1:30pm and rigged my 7.5m, it looked like there would just be enough to plane on it. Ricky arrived and went through a land drill of what I should be doing. Then we hit the water with him following me. Got planing about half the time. Did some dry gybes and realised that my weight is to far back in the gybe. Came in for a break and then went out again but the wind had died a bit and it was harder to plane, this time I sat on my board watching Ricky do a few gybes, then he watched me and said I was leaning too far back and that was causing my falling off. He also said I was stepping too late. I should learn forward during the gybe and get the boom near my chest. I should also bear off a bit more before coming out of the straps as I tend to initiate the gybe when I am sailing upwind of a beam reach. I then did some free sailing and put these tips into action with a bit more success, blasted out almost to the wreck but turned back as it is a long way out. The wind then died so I called it a day.
I am now itching to get out again and try and perfect those gybes, Ricky said I am almost there so I will do lots of practise and then have another lesson with Ricky!
